  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions
 

Prepare the Salted Caramel Sauce:

  • In a small saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly with a rubber spatula.
  • Continue cooking until the sugar melts and turns a deep amber color, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Carefully add the butter and stir until melted and well combined.
  • Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring constantly, being careful as the mixture will bubble up.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the sea salt. Set aside to cool while you prepare the brownie batter.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a small baking dish or ramekin that can hold about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of batter.

Prepare the Brownie Batter:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and semisweet chocolate chips together in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth and melted.

  • Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish or ramekin, spreading it out evenly.

  • Top with the remaining brownie batter, spreading it out to cover the caramel layer.

Bake the Brownies:

  • Place the baking dish or ramekin in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool for a few minutes before serving.
