It is a rule of the world that people respond to attractive visuals. Their importance also resonates with brands that work day and night in advertising their products. Cosmetic items come under products that enjoy a massive client base at a global level. It is one of the biggest industries in the world, as evidenced by its global market stats.
Just in 2023, the global cosmetics market size was valued at $374.18 billion. Market pundits anticipate its growth from $393.75 billion in 2024 to $758.05 billion by 2032, exhibiting a CAGR of 9.8% during the forecast period.
Imagine the burden brands have to bear to advertise these popular products. However, packaging makes things a lot easier with its diverse features. One such feature is product exhibition and it is done by one of the packaging types, known as custom printed cosmetic boxes.
What are Display Boxes?
The goals of using display boxes are mainly two: To provide clients easy access to their favorite items and to give a visually appealing exhibition to special items. Keeping these objectives in mind, packaging brands have created many display box types to exhibit a diverse range of items, including cosmetics.
Importance of Display Boxes for the Cosmetic Industry
Easy Access
Imagine entering the market looking for your favorite cosmetic item, but you can’t find it. However, it is hidden somewhere behind a whole row of other items in one of the aisles. It can be frustrating for buyers, who find it hard to buy the cosmetic products that they adore. This is where the power of display boxes comes into play, which makes accessing one’s favorite cosmetic items easy.
Visual storytelling
As Frank Darabont rightly said,
‘Visual storytelling of one kind or another has been around since cavemen were drawing on the walls.’
This is exactly what brands today aspire to do with custom cosmetic display boxes; use graphics and colors to create visual displays that convey a unique story for each of their cosmetic products. So next time you enter a store, just observe what a display box is trying to convey.
Brand Identity
Imagine a lipstick display box with graphics of a girl making a pout for a selfie and looking happy and there is a tagline written in bold size, “Playful Pouts, Happiness Shouts.” The brand is clearly trying to create its unique identity by portraying that women who use its lipsticks can find ultimate happiness and slay the style game.
Types of Display Boxes for Cosmetic Items
Display boxes come in different types to exhibit a diverse range of cosmetic items. Let’s know about each of these box types and the unique roles they play in cosmetic items’ marketing:
1. POP Displays
Short for ‘Point of Purchase’, POP displays are placed on counters beside counter top display boxes. They are larger than the latter ones as brands use these boxes to display big cosmetic products.
- Impulse Buy: The main objective of POP displays is to encourage impulse buys. Their placement plays a huge role in achieving this purpose. The reason is that POP displays are placed on counters which is a high-traffic area.
Clients waiting for billing can easily view the items placed in boxes. In case they decide to buy after being impressed by their exhibition, they can easily pick the items and put them in baskets hence, encouraging impulse buys.
- Need for Alteration: To achieve the sales targets, the POP display needs to look visually appealing. This is done by adding catchy graphics and bold colors that won’t fail to grab the buyer’s attention.
- Smart Selling: Brands realize that the shopper might change his mind after getting to know the high price of items. Thus, they place items that are low in price to encourage impulse buys.
2. Floor Displays
These display boxes are stronger and larger than most other display box types. As implied by the name, retailers place them on the floor, near the store entrance to give special exhibitions to cosmetic items like lipstick, mascara, lip balm, primer, concealer, and others.
- Purpose: Considering the vitality of special cosmetic items, retailers place floor displays near the entrance so the first thing a buyer sees after entering are these items. Thus, brands place cosmetic items that are new in the market or popular, clearance items, or those on sale.
- Big Displays: Brands realize that the buyer must be able to view labels like brand name and CTA message from afar. Thus, they can print brand names and messages like ‘Buy Now’, and ‘Use Code’ in big fonts so that customers can read even from a distance.
- Multideck: Floor displays come with multiple decks so brands can place and diverse range of items or those large in number.
- Robust: These boxes are made from durable materials such as acrylic glass, plastic, wood, or their blend. Their bases are also sturdy to provide strong support and prevent the box from dipping over the floor.
3. Counter Top Displays
As the name implies, counter top displays are placed right next to the cashier which is often visited by shoppers.
- Ideal for Small Items: These boxes are smaller than POP displays as brands use them to exhibit small items like lip balms, lipsticks, mascaras, and others.
- Perfect for Managing Items: Retailers find these boxes greatly helpful for organizing different items so they don’t create a mess on counters.
- Alteration Flexibility: Counter top displays can be easily modified which helps brands turn them into smart marketing tools.
4. Endcap Displays
These display boxes are placed at the end of the aisles and hold specific sorts of cosmetic items. Retailers place cosmetic items that give customers an idea of what they can expect to find down a particular aisle. They also place popular cosmetic items so customers don’t have to look for them in the aisle, ensuring easy access.
- Encouraging Shopping: Placing special cosmetic items in these boxes works magic as brands encourage buyers to continue down the aisles.
- Placement: Another big reason for placing these boxes at the end of the aisle is to give special visibility to certain cosmetic products. Clients can easily view the items and get enticed enough to buy them, raising the chances of more sales.
- Special Promotions: Brands also utilize endcap displays to hold ad hoc cosmetic items, products on sale, new launches, featured products, clearance items, and seasonal goods.
- Sales Potential: These display boxes offer high sale rates as the cosmetic goods exhibited on them are sold faster than those down the aisle.
- Easy Access: One of the prime reasons for the high sales potential of endcaps is that customers can easily access the items compared to those placed on aisles.
